The Tax Guy, Thomas Fortuna, has been doing taxes in Greater New Haven for over 20 years. After working for two national firms, Tom said there had to be a less expensive, yet professional way, for individuals and small businesses in Southern Connecticut to file their tax returns, so he founded The Tax Guy in 2011.

Thomas Fortuna has a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Quinnipiac University and an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of New Haven. Tom’s experience as a CFO for several small Connecticut firms and non-profits compliment his education.
The Tax Guy offers year round tax planning and preparation service. Other services include Bookkeeping and Business Plan development and writing.
Jeff Lucian – Small Business Services
All of us at The Tax Guy are thrilled that Jeff Lucian will be joining our firm. He brings years of Academic and Business experience. Jeff will be leading The Tax Guy Small Business Services, offering bookkeeping, payroll, employment, sales and income tax filings and easy to understand financial reports that allow you to run with your business armed with the best financial information.
Jeff earned his Associates Degree in Accounting from Mattituck Community College (Now Naugatuck Valley Community College) then went on to get his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Post University. Although he had a passion for numbers he also felt a calling to go into teaching, so he pursued his Masters Degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport where he became certified to teach Business Education. He then went on to pursue his 6th Year Certificate in Educational Administration from Sacred Heart University.
After seven years of teaching Business classes, he became the Chairman of the Business Education Department and served the next thirteen years in that role. Jeff has recently retired from teaching Business Education classes at the high school level where he has combined his love of teaching with the field of Business. After more than two decades of teaching he has decided to focus his energies on Accounting and Taxes.
Jeff is the proud father of two teenage boys. He enjoys his free time playing basketball, fishing and golfing with them.

DeMica Hicks – Practice Manager
DeMica Hicks earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Bridgeport and has been preparing tax returns since 2008. DeMica is a charter member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a hard working mom of two. In previous positions, DeMica worked in the Retention Department at Gateway Community College designed to give academic support to students attending the college. DeMica also worked at the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce as an Account Executive, advocating for small business. DeMica joined The Tax Guy in 2017 and will serve as the Practice Manager. She is dedicated to ensuring that all taxpayers receive a fair and accurate outcome.
Lucia Morel
Lucia Morel has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Southern Connecticut State University, and is currently completing her thesis to earn a Master’s in Taxation from the University of New Haven.
Experience:
To compliment her education, Lucia has prepared personal income tax returns for 5 years at a national tax preparation firm and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), administered by the Internal Revenue Service. Lucia has extensive experience in bookkeeping and accounting. Lucia is also an entrepreneur and has opened two neighborhood grocery stores, both in Bridgeport CT. She is fluent in Spanish and enjoys spending time with her beautiful 3 year old daughter.
Lucia C Egas
A proud mother of two, Lucia Egas graduated from Derby High School in 1997 and immediately enrolled in college to pursue a career in Accounting. Attracted by service to her country, and the thought of traveling around the world, she joined the US Army in 2000. First stationed in Kansas then Germany, she was later deployed to Kosovo and Iraq. Lucia worked full time as a Logistic Specialist Accountant for millions of dollars in military equipment.
As a 5 year Armed Forces veteran, Lucia returned to school and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 2009 and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Southern Connecticut State University in 2011. Lucia earned Honors for High Achievement from both undergraduate and graduate schools. She was elected by the Business Department to attend an Accounting Conference in Lithuania to discuss the differences in accounting methods between the USA and the European Continent and the consequences for globalization.
Lucia volunteered for the VITA program for several years while in school and worked closely with low income families to help in the areas of financial planning. Before joining The Tax Guy, Lucia worked with several firms, specializing in all phases of bookkeeping.
